Lui, I just wanted to let you know once again how special the house concert (in Santa Cruz) was for my mother and me. That concert was the most magical present I have been able to give my mother in years! It reminded us both of earlier and happy times. We both miss New Hampshire and it really brought us back to the Folkway for a moment! More importantly, it let me get aquainted with your music once again as an adult. I have been humming several of the tunes for days now. My website is under construction right now and I would be honored to include a link to this page. Here's hoping all your travels are blessed and your life remains fruitful, Love, Heather

Hi Lui! My name is Julie and I am a music therapist. The place that I work at has just recently approved my department to organize and run and coffeehouse over the summer months. Having seen you perform a number of times, I am both familiar with and quite fond of your music and as such I am inviting you to consider being one of our performers. I don't know how to contact you outside of this e-mail address, or else I would have done so. Ordinarily I would have sent you a letter explaining some of the details. Would you please call me so I can explain our set-up and the details of this invitation? It would be great if you could be one of our performers! My work number is 203-586-2222 (Southbury, CT). And now, for comments more appropriate to this entry spot - I have used your song "Waltzing with Bears" many times over to help children who are speech delayed. We "practice" making our "w" sound (or whatever sound we substitute in there) to that tune. It's a great song for that! I also use Ms. Hula quite a bit - one lady I work with LOVES music in a minor mode. She and I are both energized by that song. Please respond ASAP regarding the coffee house. Thanks! - Julie

Lui: I just got back from your concert tonight at the Sounding Board in West Hartford, CT. Your performance really moved me. Your music was terrific, your voice angelic, your poetry spoke volumes to me, and you added a beautifully delicate whimsy that made the experience most uniquely heartwarming and memorable. It is concerts like yours tonight that put a much needed human soul in a overly techno-mechanical world. I will be sure to attend any of your next concerts in the area. Lui, I bid you joy, prosperity and the purest of light. Mac

What a joy it was last night to finally hear you in person! And to find you living essentially in my backyard! (Just this morning I spoke with Kippy- an old friend from Hampshire- she tells me you are good friends. That's neat!) I was turned on to your music about 10 years ago and am even more turned on to it now! Thank you for such a sweet evening. I loved your songs, your voice and your duo's with Dana. Kippy told me you'd be playing on Nov.11 at Hampshire College, but I hope to see you and Dana again before that!

I tried in vain to write you a Happy Birthday E-mail the other day not realizing I could send it via this website. We were all very touched by your concert a few weeks ago in Strafford. Although my birthday was not for a couple of days it was a fitting celebration. I would love to chance upon your poetry in a bookstore someday, is there any possibility of that happenning? They were very moving, I was speechless after a few of your readings. Thanks again ^^^

Wonderful to spend a warm moonlit February night with you at Heather's in Plantation.....You are a special person to be around and love your music. We have many great natural wonders in Florida, but no bears that I know of. I found myself dancing around the house, snapping my fingers to "Bearline", and of course, 'Waltzing with Bears". Obviously bear lovers too. Best wishes on your new album.. You will always be 'endearable' to us, or should I say 'enbearable'..........rick sharp

Hi! I hope this message gets to Lui Collins. Dear Lui: I have been a fan of your music since the summer of 1982, when I discovered the "Baptism of Fire" album. The "Paired Down" CD's are excellent. My husband and I have listened to them many times and always find something new to enjoy. At the concert you gave with Fred Small at Bodles Opera House, Chester, NY last year, you were kind enough to talk to me about your music and Hampshire College. I just want you to know that you are a great inspiration to me, and I love your songs and voice. Thank you for your gift of music! Sincerely, Mollie Muenzen

Dear Lui, I heard your piece, "Blessed" on some CD I borrowed from my library and it has become one of my all time favorite songs. In fact, I mentioned you and this piece in a column I wrote for a religious magazine that I write for. I quoted the refrain in the song. Hope that's OK, if not, let me know in the next week or so. I think you'd like the article, about making it from Good Friday over to Easter. If you'd like, I'll send it to you. You may know my brother-in-law, folk singer Dean Stevens. Anyway, I'll be ordering Moondancer as soon as I find my wallet with my credit card and hope we can hear you in concert sometime. Thanks, Krista B. Stevens

Hi Lui, I was able to catch your concert in Greenfield sat. night and brought four friends. We only knew about it from your mailing of a few days earlier, so the system does work. If you want to pull me from the mailing list and use e-mail instead that's okay. I know you enjoy hearing the other performers but I wasn't happy that it dragged on and you came on an hour after scheduled. Oh well. My brother, his girlfriend and I had heard you last year in Wendell so we were comparing notes on the ride home. Brad thought you seemed happier and I was intrigued by your epiphany? over the holidays. Having grown up at a Mass. Audubon Sanctuary, I appreciate the transformational power of being in the woods. I was also concerned about your kids, what with your new performance schedule. Your singing of "baptism" at the end of the evening took me back to the late seventies and made me realize that the material that you're performing now doesn't highlight your vocal capabilities in quite the same way as the old songs. I know you have to continue to move in whatever direction your muse takes you and so that's okay - I guess as long as your face continues to light up when you perform, then everything must be as it should be. Thanks for putting the imagery and feelings you do into your music and then sharing it with us. Brian

Back in 1987 afriend of mine gave me a tape of the "Baptism" album. She told me that her mother used to listen and dance to the music wiht her. Her Mom had died in a car crash and she new that my Mom had recently passed away so she gave me your music as a way of saying "I understand your loss". I took that tape all the way to Florida with me and have been grateful to have your music and your voice in my life ever since. I mentioned this the other night in Greenfield but I shall say it again. When I read books if the author is good, the written words paint pictures in my mind so that I may see the story as well as read it. When you sing there is so much passion in the words and in the spirit of your voice, that I can see the songs as beautiful paintings of life. I too am a musician. I play mainly guitar but I play the bass for a local band called "Starfish" and I play other instruments as well. My hope is to someday find beautiful words for the beautiful music that i write. I have a room at my home filled with instruments and I record myself playing guitar and drums and singing. Actually, I have some music that I wrote many years ago and I would wish for you to have it. I think that your singing and insiteful writing would give it and angel's voice. I look forward to seeing you again. Diana.

Speaking of networking, you're welcome to download a clip of Lui singing "Face to Face" from my website. Sorry to be so long winded. I wanted to tell you I spent a month in Ireland this fall. We should do some bookings over there for you. Or, if you ever want a musically inspiring vacation, we can hook you up with good musicians and tell you the best places to go. Anyway, I was visiting a dear friend who is very ill, so that was sad. But standing alone in the wild, lashing rain in the middle of a huge peat bog in the west nourished my soul in a way nothing else can. We're going down to see Eric Anderson at Grey Goose. He's an oldie but goodie. I still have his first LP from 1968, which he's signed before for me. I think I'll bring it along. It's still terrific. Good music never dies, it never even fades, thank God. I'm done now. Promise. S.

Lui! Great site. Good work, Rose. I was thinking of you the other day, Lui. You'll be pleased to hear we've done over my old office completely, bought a new guest bed, wallpaper, the whole works. AND the dogs are being kept out of it! AND, furthermore, I'm even vacuuming in there, just like a "normal" person and all! I was thinking of you as I removed the dust, etc. from there the other day. At least now, if you have to stay, your life and livelihood won't be in danger. We'll see you at del Rossi's on your next gig there. You WILL play the "big dipper" song, won't you? (Such a pain I am...) Didn't realize you were immersed in a new CD, but I should know how productive you've become in the past few years. I am feeling/doing incredibly much better. I even have a job!!! Will wonders never cease. Only 12 hours a week, just enough. Doing social work with the elderly in a small housing complex in the next town. I pass by this place all the time on my way to the video store, anyway. May as well stop in and do something of redeeming social value. I meet one of my coworkers tomorrow, start the job on Monday. I'll do 3 four-hour shifts, perfect for starting out. It's been 10 long years that I've read the help-wanted ads *every* day, hoping the day would come... And now it's here. I shall never forget that you sang to me every day for three months when I was "doing time" in Brattleboro. You are a dear friend, a stellar musician and an inspiration as a role model. Oh, by the way, we LOVE the doggie CD! Of course. Love to you. Nice picture of Dana, by the way. Give him our best. I promise to keep that room dust free for you, by the way. We serve tea in there too. Sherry

Dear Lui, Thanks for your second visit with us and thanks so much for both of the truly wonderful shows down our way. The concert at my kids' school turned out better than I had started to expect, with all the school snow closings! I'm so glad we were able to pull it off after all! If you're able to come back next year, I'm sure the school will want a repeat! Perhaps we'll go for a less temperamental time of year! Last night's show at our UU church was so special. Everyone was so glad they turned out in spite of slippery parking lots and leaky roofs! We all had a wonderful time and we thank you. Next time, hopefully I can finally have you stay with US! (Though I can't imagine anyone better than Marlene & Rob -- better to stay with OR better people in general!) Maybe we'll explore what a "house concert" is... Take care, continue to be happy and making beautiful music which makes the world a better place! Love & blessings -- 3 x 3! Laurie

It was really fun to hear favorites like "Mystery Play" (a great set closer), "Friendship Waltz", "Won't Miss You, Darlin" and "Spark/Wings"(cool banjo). It may have been cold outside, but the warmth in that room was unmistakable. Sue and I look forward to seeing you again soon and urge anyone checking out the guestbook to make it to a Lui concert whenever possible. It's always worth the trip! Love, Paul (& Sue)
